SMARTUP – Master’s Programme in Entrepreneurship is one of the key outputs of the Erasmus+ Project “SMARTUP: Startup Master and Advanced Reflective Tools by University & Partner”.
The long-term vision of the project can be summarized in the statement “Our graduates think big, build collaboration and make it happen”.
To transform such vision into reality, the SMARTUP – Master’s Programme aims to
train highly qualified students and entrepreneurs in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation,
support them in the construction of their entrepreneurial mindset, as well as in the acquisition of the practical know-how,
assist them in coping with the challenges of creating a successful entrepreneurial topic of “How do I create a successful entrepreneurial venture in an international business environment?”
Target group and admission criteria
The SMARTUP – Master’s Programme targets different kinds of early stage entrepreneurs:
students who are partners or work at an existing early stage start-up company;
students who want to test their business idea for the establishment of a future start-up company;
students who want to test and see whether they are ready to become entrepreneurs.
The ideal candidate is a person who has:
the motivation to become an entrepreneur
completed a Bachelor’s Degree (3.5 – 4 years)
In Finland: If the student does not have 3 years of working experience after completing the Bachelor’s Degree AND if the Bachelor’s Degree is less than 3.5 years, Haaga-Helia is able to grant only ECTS credit points, but not the actual Master’s Degree.
At the end of the Master Programme
After completing the Master’s Degree programme, the student will be able to:
generate business ideas in a systematic manner utilizing design thinking methods;
take steps to strategically exploit new business opportunities;
create, test and pitch new business models as a part of an overall business plan;
develop, test and successfully pitch a business plan with a go-to-market plan;
lead and manage complex business development operations in order to create a MVP (minimum viable product);
work individually and in teams so as to collaborate with different and international partners successfully.
Structure of the Master Programme
The Master Programme can be described as a student’s journey to entrepreneurship, from the initial problem recognition to prototyping solutions, testing them and business plan creation with the go-to-market plan phase. It begins with the selection of students in October 2017, and ends with their graduation in November 2018.
The core and its milestones will be derived from the contents of the Programme, which foresee a combination of compulsory modules in Entrepreneurship and specialization modules linked to the following macro-specialization:
Each of the compulsory modules is a pit-stop on the student’s journey. The specialization modules are electives and students can build their own path based on their specific needs – so each one will have a unique journey. The process is iterative and students will be able to explore different phases, even when prototyping the product or service.
The 12-months study process is presented in the picture below, which shows the timeline and organization of compulsory and specialization modules, webinars, and events that will characterize each student journey.

A set of 11 webinars will be developed on the following topics:
– Design thinking
– Smart pitch
– Business planning process
– Role of business incubators
– Organizing a crowdfunding campaign
– Marketing strategies for startups
– Sustainable business
– Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation
– Mobile Services, Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
– Management accounting
During the programme, different networking events will be organised, as these enrich the SMARTUP experience for students and increase their opportunities of cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset.
The Master’s Programme is co-designed by a smart cooperation effort between higher education institutes, companies, the European Crowdfunding Network, and business foundations covering a total of nine EU countries, and Stanford University in the role of associated partner.

FH Joanneum University (Austria);
University of Thessaly (Greece);
Stanford University (USA);
Students can apply for admission strictly by October 23, 2017.
The candidates must apply on-line through the website www.unimib.it accessing the section “Segreterie Online”.
Candidates who are not yet registered in the system will have to first register entering their personal details and then login into the system with their personal credentials.
After the login, applicants will have to select “admission” and then select the “SMARTUP – International Master in Entrepreneurship” Master.

Students will be selected during a special open day event that will be held at partner universities between the end of October and the first half of November.
Admission fees: the first edition of SMARTUP – Master’s Programme in Entrepreneurship is free of charge, as admission fees are covered by the Erasmus+ SMARTUP grant.
