On the 29th of June, the 1st SMARTUP National Roundtable took place in the context of the 3rd ECN CrowdCamp in Bologna, Italy. Local and international participants had a chance to learn more about the project and together with panellists explore which tools are currently available for students and young entrepreneurs that want to bring their idea closer to market.
The National Roundtable was opened with a presentation by the professor and the chair of the panel Elisabetta Marafioti, who introduced the aim of the project and its outputs: Master programme, web-based tools that were created specifically to support students throughout the process and community of mentors. The panellists of the National Roundtable represented 3 different sectors: educational institution, crowdfunding platform and European network. Giulia Gallerani, Researcher at the Instituto Scientifico Romagnolo per lo Studio e la Cura dei Tumori shared how she was able to raise funds for her research project through a crowdfunding campaign and how it also helped make her project visible to a wider audience. Hanne Lahousse from Growfunding, a civic crowdfunding platform for Brussels and the surrounding region, talked about her experience in supporting startups before, during and after the launch of their campaigns. And last but not least, Giordano Dichter, Senior Business Advisor at European Crowdfunding Network underlined the paramount importance of developing and nurturing a “culture of failure” that can support students in learning from their mistakes while providing them with the right tools to “try again”.
